Secretariat Will Turn Heads
This Racing Season
Lexington, Ky—
Secretariat will be riding high this racing season—high on the heads
of lady spectators, that is. Hat designer Polly Singer, owner of All
You Need is Love Hats and Veils, specializing in hand-made, custom
hats, has announced her latest creation, The Secretariat. A portion
of the proceeds from the sale of the hat will benefit the
Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation.
Singer has been designing hats
since 1993, some of which have been worn to Millionaire's Row at the
Kentucky Derby. Singer’s hats have won multiple awards and she has
exhibited hats at galleries in Louisville, New York City, and
Chicago. “Every woman can wear a hat. The most important thing is to
find the right one for you,” explains Singer.
The Secretariat hat, which features
Secretariat's racing colors incorporated into the hat design, is the
first in a series of designs based on Triple Crown racing winners.
The inside of the hatband is royal blue and white checked, the same
pattern jockey Ron Turcotte wore when he was riding Secretariat to
his Triple Crown win in 1973.
More than just a fashion statement,
these beautiful hats are making a difference off the track as well.
A portion of the proceeds from the Secretariat hat, as well as
future hats in the Triple Crown series, will go the Thoroughbred
Retirement Foundation, whose mission is to save thoroughbred horses
no longer able to compete on the racetrack from possible neglect,
abuse and slaughter.
Founded in 1982, TRF has saved
thousands of horses through rescue, rehabilitation, adoption and
retirement efforts. Healthier retirees are rehabilitated and
retrained for second careers as pleasure horses, pets or therapeutic
riding partners. In addition, TRF staffs and maintains a vocational
training program in equine care and management for inmates at four
correctional facilities, providing multiple benefits to inmates who
work the farms.
All of Singer’s hats are made by
hand in her studio, beginning with only raw materials, and may take
up to 3 weeks to complete after ordering, depending on what’s in
stock. For more information on the Secretariat hat visit
hatsandveils.net or look for Singer’s custom hats at upcoming events
including the Kentucky Museum of Art and Design (March 24), Hats for
Hope Gala (April 13), and Apple Patch Hat Gala Fashion Show (April
25), all in Louisville, Kentucky.
