Shirley is named after Dr. Shirley Jackson. Dr. Jackson conducted research which aided in the invention of the portable fax machine, touch tone telephone, solar cells, fiber optic cables, caller ID, and call waiting. Dr. Jackson was born in Washington, D.C. in 1946, and she is a major part of telecommunications, as she conducted crucially important research which led to its progress.

Shirley is a wide-brimmed natural panama straw hat with royal blue silk flowers, royal blue sinamay ribbon details, and royal blue trim along the edge of the brim of the hat.
